Comrades visited Steelworkers Park and walked through the surrounding land to scout the area where the Quantum campus is scheduled to be constructed. This report back is based on two scouts. Go and see for yourself.
Steelworkers Park is a public city park: folks are on walks with their dogs, fishing, climbing, and birdwatching. There’s free parking, DIVY bikes, and community work days. A cop car was present in the cul-de-sac of the entrance/parking/exit, like at many public parks. Rainbow Beach is further north, another public park with several parking lots. It would be a manageable distance to bike from.
There are traffic cameras at the 87th and LSD intersection and some above the parking area for the park. No other cameras were spotted throughout the land at the time of writing [mid April 2025].
The land specifically designated for the first phase of the construction of the Quantum base is directly south of the Steelworkers Park entrance. It butts up against the west side of the park and continues south towards US Army Corps of Engineers signs (looks like piles of rocks mostly tbh). This land is surrounded with a 5.5 ft fence. There are gates at several points which are locked, but there are a number of places where the fence has been damaged (notably on the north side there’s a giant rock that opens the space). It is also climbable. “No Trespassing” signs are nearly entirely absent. One was seen along with a US Army Corps of Engineers sign at the very westernmost fence near a gated entrance along LSD.
This lot varies in appearance; some areas have waist-height grass, some areas have denser trees, some of it is almost cleared. There are construction cones and little marking flags throughout, but it is not clear whether these are new or leftover from the past. There’s a bunch of trash, including two human-abandoned, bee-busy beehives. There are multiple “well testing” spots throughout. There are a number of gravel / dirt roads at various locations as well. There was a truck with a drill parked on one of these dirt roads. No workers were seen; unclear if the truck is there long term or what.
There’s a smaller fenced in area with a taller fence (~10ft) with barbed wire. The gate however is wide open. There’s a caterpillar sitting near this area, also unclear how long it’s been sitting.
It does not look like construction has started nor that there is elevated surveillance at this time. Keep watch, take risks. Fight against Quantum. Fight for the lake, the beavers, South Shore, for privacy and autonomy, for ur lovers and friends.

We offer to you on “World Quantum Day” this report-back of recent movement building and protest against the specter of Quantum in so-called Chicago.
On the spring equinox, March 20, 2025, opponents of a plan to build the 9 Billion dollar Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park(IQMP) on the shores of southern Lake Michigan or Mishigami, disrupted an event that the Chicago Architecture Center hosted to sell the project to the public.
A dozen people rallied outside of the entrance of the swank downtown offices of the Chicago Architecture Center Thursday, calling simultaneously for the whole project to be stopped entirely, but also to make sure that the people are not forgotten if developers were to go forward with terraforming the lakefront to make room for this massive tech campus, and that there are also plans to ensure that somehow it would benefit the people currently living in the neighborhoods and the local ecosystem, not corporate profit and militarization. Colorful banners and signs held by people had the words, “Invest in People, Not Quantum”, “Quantum = Displacement: The Lake is for the People, Not Your Supercomputer” and “Love Mishigami, Hate Killer Quantum” while others played music and chanted.
Evil Enbridge out of the Great Lakes! Shut Down Line 5 NOW! A noisy disruption swept through the cocktail reception of the LDC gas forum in Chicago. The 3 day forum consisted of talks from directors and players in the oil and gas industry, hype-ing false solutions like carbon capture technologies, and how to keep expanding the oil and gas industry further while we descend into a world of deeply uncertain futures as climate change reshapes and ravages ecosystems on a global level and biodiversity rapidly declines.
A group of people entered the hotel hosting the conference and crashed the attendee’s welcome reception of the 2024 LDC Mid-Continent Gas Conference. A banner with the words, “Enbridge Out of the Great Lakes, Shut Down Line 5 Now!” on one side and, “Evil Enbridge, Fuck Off!” on the other side was unfurled at the cocktail hour reception. People sang, and chanted with a bullhorn, played instruments, and left messages for Enbridge and other gas companies inside the hotel. After causing a ruckus inside, the group walked outside to the bar’s patio overlooking the Chicago River, and less than one mile from Lake Michigan, to “greet” more LDC conference attendees with noise, banners, and rowdy jeers. One person was arrested by the pigs for allegedly trespassing and released onsite.
Notably present, Enbridge, the pipeline company responsible for moving tar sands from Alberta, Canada to its conglomeration of pipelines surrounding the Great Lakes region, known as the “Lakehead pipeline system” hosted talks and presentations as a major contributor at the LDC gas forum. Enbridge directors even gave a girl-boss presentation named: “Empowering Women in Energy: Tomorrow is Together”, in an attempt to say their industry of death and destruction is at least inclusive to women and anyone else who wishes a oil & gas fueled speedy demise to human existence on this planet

❤️🔥Let’s take care of each other so we can be dangerous together ❤️🔥
🍂Join us for a fall Chicago Anarchist CareShare, the weekend before the election on November 1-3!🍂
After over a year full of actions, disruptions and more, we are focusing on skillshares and group-faciliated sessions on care, in AND out of the streets.
What does it look like to care for ourselves and our people when we are not in the streets? What is care in times where people are reckoning with immense repression and dehumanization that comes with trying to confront the empire and all its entities?
While we don’t claim to have all the answers, we invite folks to engage in these questions with us.
Some skillshare workshops to look forward to are: care under stress, diaster relief and mutual aid work, long-term prisoner support, somatic exercises, operational and digital security culture, fighting toxic prisons, storytelling by the beehive collective, community and self defense, conflict resolution, storytelling around the bonfire and so much more! CONTEXT
Since October 7th, Chicago has seen countless marches and actions that have been successful in bringing out hundreds and thousands of people. However, many of these numbers consist of suburbanites driving or being bussed into the city to show support, rather than a mass of Chicagoans coming together from across the deeply race- and class-segregated city. In addition, these marches have usually been put on by a small number of nonprofit organizations. They have been heavily marshaled and largely symbolic, leaving many people demoralized and looking for more.
As every day sees more Gazans murdered by the zionist entity, symbolic parades that play into respectability politics at every turn and ask the state for permission to protest are clearly a toothless and insufficient response. Small, isolated acts of sabotage aren’t enough either—it is crucial to seek more militant forms of collective action. These actions should demonstrate an understanding of the throughline between the colonial states of the US and Israel, and the need to abolish both entirely—prisons, police, military, and state bureaucracies alike—to stop both the genocide in Gaza and the daily forms of state violence here in Chicago. From within the imperial core, there’s an obligation to interrupt the material support that the “U.S.” provides “israel.”
In order to encourage more militant collective action, there is a need for a change in protest culture that is rife with peace policing liberal concerns about “outside agitators.” Contrary to what peace police, protest managers, and the heads of liberal social justice organizations would have us believe, many people are looking to take more escalated action and learn the skills to do so together. This desire clearly expressed itself in flashes at the campus encampments here in Chicago, including in the brief but impactful establishment of the Casbah of Basel Al Araj on the University of Chicago campus.

Northwestern University 2.0???
Uchi’s encampment has been very disappointing. For starters, the community agreements are not community agreements. They are rules. One silly thing that they have decided for the quad is that no one can smoke or vape when it’s the norm. They have also decided to declare that people will not engage with any form of authority while they behave as such. Organizers and marshals have formed an internal divide within the encampment. On day one of the encampment, members decided to take down the israeli multi-flag display, and marshals chased them down and took pictures of them. It says on the community “agreements” that people are not supposed to take pictures of others without consent. Does that only apply to people who do what they say? Zionists eventually put them back up with UCPD guards. If marshals are supposed to “keep the camp safe,” wouldn’t it have been a great time to block them from taking the flags down? Chicago has amplified calls from the Palestinian resistance factions for mobilization against the Zionist entity and its enablers in the month of Ramadan and to mark six months since the beginning of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. Israel cannot prosecute this war of extermination without the financial support of the United States. Nor can it maintain the pace of destruction without massive American arms transfers. In light of this we level our attack on the reserves and industrial capacity of the military-industrial complex.
A short drive west from Chicago sits the Rock Island Arsenal, headquarters of the US Army’s Joint Munitions Command. The JMC produces, tests, stores, repairs, and distributes conventional weapons, chemical weapons, vehicles, and other materiel to supply the US armed forces – and for arms sales and transfers. A militarily designated strategic rail network (STRACNET) rail line crosses the west end of the island on which the arsenal sits, connecting it to other JMC facilities and the wider strategic rail network at large. This rail bridge crosses a section of the Mississippi River that frequently floods – as such, its steel supports on the industrial southern bank have seen better days. On May 1, 2024, a group of rabble rousers and freaks took part in an anarchist May Day parade that stormed through the Fulton Market neighborhood of Chicago. Before leaving Union Park, people danced around a May Pole in costumes, shared food, laughter and music and then hit the streets. The group of about 80 people was tailed by at least 30 squad cars as many people chanted, danced and re-decorated the highly gentrified neighborhood.
This action came together in the midst of four of Chicago’s big universities hosting occupations in support of Palestinian liberation as the Genocide continues.
Walking down Randolph street towards the original Haymarket Square, the group antagonized gentrifying zionists as they sipped their wine in the outdooor restaurants along the boulevards. The group brought noise and commotion to the Google building, Chase Bank, Starbucks and global headquarters of McDonalds — all four companies having known ties with Israel. The march culminated in a stand off with dozens of cops in front of McDonald’s Hamburger University, where some protestors were brutalized and arrested.
The cops continue to serve and protect the genocidal actions of the Israeli Occupation Forces and the US government while children die. But, a collective rage is bubbling and comrades all around the world are coming together to fight. Find your people, dance in the streets, create ruins and do everything you can to wreak havoc.
This action is dedicated to the Chicago anarchists, Haymarket Martyrs and all those who have lost their lives in Palestine.
