Ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future visit UM-Los Alamos data center project workers

On Monday, November 24 between the hours of 6 and 8am the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future visited the homes of four local Scrooges (Carolyn Kuranz, Aaron Towne, Daniel Israel, and Jonah Miller) working on the Los Alamos data center project to warn them of the dire consequences should they continue with their plans to greedily consume the water in so-called Ypsilanti, Michigan.

The message of the spirits was clear:

“From the horrors of the atomic bomb to the desecration of the Huron River, to the looming threat of nuclear disaster on all of humanity, you will be haunted by deep regret if you don’t do the right thing now! Get OUT of Ypsi, OUT of Michigan, OUT of the war industry!”

These mischievous ghosts also left their words of warning in the ears and on the doorsteps of the neighbors! (see attachment)

We bet these Scrooges wish they could wash their hands of this whole experience – if only they had any soap in their kitchens! >_< (yuck)

Quit your jobs! Don’t be Scrooges! Get out of here with your gross weapons research, the AI data center that will support it, and the pollution of the land we love!

New Zine: Palisades: the Dangerous Decommissioned Nuclear Reactor Reopening on Our Lakeshore

Posted on 2025/11/14 - 2025/11/14 by unsalted
Cover of a zine. The title and subtitle, "palisades: the dangerous decommissioned nuclear reactor reopening on our lakeshore" is at the top, over a black-and-white aerial photo of the palisades nuclear plant on the shore of Lake Michigan. At the bottom is the text "first edition fall 2025".

Foreward
Hi reader 🙂
So the structure of this zine might be kiiiiiiinda weird. Yes, it is about the Palisades nuclear plant and Whitmer/Holtec’s plan to restart it using massive amounts of taxpayer money. But in researching this zine, we found that we also wanted to engage with some of the larger questions of nuclear energy. After all, both parts of that topic (nuclear and energy) bring up some pretty existential stuff. Instead of dancing around that to try to find broader appeal or more narrowly focus on the sins of this particular plant (of which there are many), we wanted to look at the big-picture questions head on.
We hope to provide enough information for you to hate this plant as much as we do (and we also encourage you to look outside of this zine to learn more about it), but we also hope it gets you thinking about nuclear energy in the broader context of capitalism & colonialism.
The first part of the zine focuses on the basics of the plant, its decommissioning, and the plan to restart it. The remainder is a discussion of environmental racism, corporate negligence, labor issues, and degrowth in the context of nuclear energy, with a specific focus on Palisades.
Let’s envision a world where we see land, water, and air in terms of relationships; where we meet needs instead of manufacturing them; where we, collectively, share all the power.

Introduction: Spectre on the Water
I remember family trips to Lake Michigan as a child. We would camp with friends at Van Buren State Park, where we could bike down to the lake and step tentatively into her icy waves. We would boldly dive in, skin tightening against the frigid water. As we swam around, we would sometimes drift down the shoreline into the shadow of a bizarre, concrete facility.
It seemed so out of place amidst the dune grasses and mature maples. As we approached, we felt the waters get warmer. It was pleasant on our bodies which were working so hard to stay warm. But something never felt quite right about that building or those waters at its feet.
Maybe it’s the hindsight in knowing its dangers now, or maybe my intuition understood something the plant’s designers couldn’t seem to see. They had calculated the risks and our bodies, our lives, were within an acceptable margin.

REPORTBACK FROM NOISE DEMO @ WASHTENAW COUNTY JAIL 10/23

Posted on 2025/11/07 - 2025/11/07 by unsalted

A noise demo was held on october 23rd at washtenaw county jail at 2201 HOGBACK rd in ann arbor to demand the release of two (of three) comrades who were arrested at a protest of an iof talking tour event put on by U of M’s ‘students supporting israel’ chapter that same evening.

A group of about 100 of us organically assembled at the jail’s main entrance, drumming and clanging as we do at noise demos. After a short period of making noise at the main entrance of the jail (on the washtenaw side), we decided to move around the perimeter of the jail, towards the Hogback side. This is where the two garages are that cops use to bring the people they’ve kidnapped into the jail. We rounded into the garage area and broke out into chants and clangs. At this point some of us decided to make noise using the garage door itself. That garage door sure did shake!

We pounded against these impermanent walls- kicking and throwing our bodies against it as the beat to which we shouted for the release of our comrades. Boy did it piss the pigs off…Sure enough cruisers rounded into the entrances off of hogback in what looked like a potential kettle. We slowly moved back from the garage so as to avoid this, continually chanting and shouting expletives at the approaching officers. After standing ground for about a half hour, people slowly decided to leave.

A Call To Action: Line 5 Re-Route Construction Begins

The forest grows uneasy in the nest of the thunderbirds. Everyday there arrives more machines, more pipe, and more men. So many men that they have a whole camp for their corrupt consciouses. The forest listens as each day brings with it more noise than the last. The sounds of machines humming, men yelling, and trees falling. The forest heard the men talking of a plan to start a new wave of construction by the end of the year. There hasn’t been this much noise on the shores of the medicine river for almost a generation, since the fight for the water against goegebic taconite. The only noise missing is the crackling sound of campfires and the joyous music of the defenders of the earth camping amongst the trees. But just because there is no camp, does not mean that action isn’t being taken. Every week the forest is introduced to new allies. People from all over have been making plans to resist the development of this black snake and have been coming self sufficient and autonomous to the shores of Gichigami to take action. You and your friends are invited to follow suit. The forest is waiting to meet you.

Some ghouls awoke on Devil’s Night (October 30th) and went to haunt the neighborhoods of Ann Arbor residents doing some evil nuclear weapons development stuff. They left literature which encouraged people to support their neighbors to make less spooky choices.

Chris has hired some private security to sit outside his house wasting gas and money, but unfortunately ghouls are invisible to hired guns! Better luck next time!

Several Dozen Trees Spiked Along Enbridge Line 5 Reroute

The forest that stretches through so called iron county on the edge of Mishkiiziibii (Bad River Reservation) and near the southern shore of Gitchigami (Lake Superior) is home to some of the largest giizhik (cedar) ive ever seen. The forest floor there is damp and rolled over with moss and leaves and fallen trees. Mossy holes and roots reaching around stones, giizhik (cedar), mitigominzh (oak), ookwemin (cherry), and aninaatig (maple). This is also the site of Enbridges proposed line 5 reroute. A small group of us recently walked the eastern half of the proposed easement. With anger, sadness, and love in our hearts we spiked dozens of the trees who make up this forest. We did this because we want to stop Enbridge. We did it because we hate them and all that they come from. We did it because we hate the world that they build. We did it because we could. The forest held us and hid us and Enbridge could do nothing about it. We walked all over their easement and we’ll be back.

Today we send them a warning:

Camp Grayling reports vandalism to critical safety gates near active ranges – Grayling, MI

Posted on 2025/10/28 - 2025/10/28 by unsalted

Originally published on https://unravel.noblogs.org/camp-grayling-reports-vandalism-to-critical-safety-gates-near-active-ranges-grayling-mi/

October 1, 2025

An investigation is underway after six access gates were tampered with a Camp Grayling.

Officials say the gates were vandalized during the week of Sept. 21 in the 30-complex area.

The gates are “crucial safety measures for the community and service members” because they keep the public off active ranges being used for training.

Founded in 1913, Camp Grayling is the main training facility for the Michigan National Guard and is the largest U.S. National Guard training facility in the United States.

Many national training exercises take place at the facility, including “Northern Strike,” which brings more than 7,500 troops from across the U.S. to Northern Michigan.
